The Beatification of Pope John Paul II – A Continued Call to Not Be Afraid

    29 Apr 2011 in Events & Faith & History

Pope John Paul II, my spiritual role model and the man who was Universal in every sense of the word will be beatified on May 1st, 2011. I can’t imagine the energy and buzz in Rome and look forward to the Feast of Divine Mercy this Sunday, where Pope Benedict the XVI will beatify him. For all creatives out there, following his call to “Not be afraid” in your art, in your acting, in your singing, in your poetry and...

The Genesis of PAL Campaign – Part 3: “PAL Campaign is born!”

27 Apr 2011 in Art & PAL News

Art school was filled with a variety of experiences. Some I’d prefer to forget and others I’d like to hold onto. The ones I hold onto are those that filled me with a sense of satisfaction after having completed a great piece of work. This is probably the same feeling someone gets when others enjoy a meal they cooked, or when you keep looking at a recently cleaned room or workspace. That feeling of satisfaction, seeing the fruits of your...

    My Very First T-Shirt Design

17 Apr 2011 in Art & PAL News

Word had gotten out about my ability to create artwork. Not necessarily the quality of the artwork, but rather that I was able to create artwork. And for charitable organizations and ministry groups working without much of a budget, the ability to create artwork is all it takes for you to receive the “Graphic Designer” title. I was 19 years old and my youth minister approached me with designing a t-shirt for an upcoming youth conference. Here’s what ended up...

The Genesis of PAL Campaign – Part 2: “Enrique Iglesias”

27 Mar 2011 in Faith & PAL News

With no plans for college, and nearing the end of my senior year, my future looked grim. That sounds overly dramatic, but trust me it’s not when you have Korean parents who’ve been waiting to be able to brag to their friends about which college their son was going to. To give everyone an example, they would correct me when I said “College” instead of “University.” They could no longer say the words, “Berkeley” or “Harvard” but only…”Community College.” Yes,...

The Genesis of PAL Campaign – Part 1: A High School Story

05 Mar 2011 in Art & Misc & PAL News

“If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.” This quote is cute, funny, deep, uneasy, and terrifying all at once. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined I’d be running a t-shirt company, let alone pursue art as a career in any way. Although my parents never stopped me from creating or pursuing art, it was always understood at least from their point of view that art was just a hobby. But I always loved...

Book Review: “Choosing the Right Urinal”

    01 Mar 2011 in Books & Faith & Reviews

As some of our PALs are aware, I am currently living in Korea until (presumably) this August, teaching English to middle school students in the area.  Though PAL Campaign and I are hundreds of miles apart, I still expressed interest in writing for this blog.  The founder, Joe Kim, asked me to give my take on Kyle Heimann’s microbook “Choosing the Right Urinal” as my first official entry. After reading the book, I hesitated in writing a review.  Being in Korea has, admittedly, been a blessing,...

    “Remembrance” Praise Rally

    01 Feb 2011 in Events

On Friday, January 21st 2011, Holy Family High School hosted a praise rally titled “Remembrance.” Its purpose was to reconnect the youth with their faith, as well as their brothers and sisters in Christ. All those in attendance truly got to experience God in a real way as two great worship bands, Jacob and Matthew and Clap for Poland were there to lead praise. It is amazing the amount of talent these two bands have, so make sure to continue...

    SCRC Conference 2010

06 Sep 2010 in Events & PAL News

It seems like PAL’s posts are becoming event based. It’s something we promise to change so that you can stay up-to-date with all things PAL, but hopefully it’s a testament to how busy we’ve been! We just got back from the SCRC conference in Anaheim and had a blast meeting old friends and making new ones. Take a look at the pics! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=233391&id=24192649919

    Steubenville West 2010

06 Sep 2010 in Events & PAL News

Just came back from Steubenville West in Arizona with my Youth Group and needless to say, it was an Amazing weekend! For those of you who have never heard of a Steubenville Conference before, it’s a series of weekend conferences for High School teens all over the United States hosted by Franciscan University and the good people at Life Teen. Being from Los Angeles, we always choose to make the 9 hour bus ride “pilgrimage” to the hot hot heat...
